Key Features of the Apron Feeder
1. The impact loads are usually absorbed by the pans that are made of cast or rolled alloy or even manganese steel depending on the application of the feeder.
2. The pans are normally bolted on strong link chains that are supported on heavy-duty lubricated rollers. The high strength pans help the feeder to withstand heavy loads and resist abrasion.
3. Its short pitch chain ensures a quiet discharge of the material with minimal impact on the receiver.
4. The roller and chain flanges help in ensuring that the pans are aligned to the feeders skirt.
How it Works
The materials being carried are held in place by a large hopper at the end of the belt. The amount of the material being transported is mainly determined by that distance between the feeders top and the hopper; the more the distance, the more the carrying capacity. It can however be adjusted to accommodate more or less materials.
The materials are deposited onto the feeder by the hopper. As this happens, the metal pans which make up the belt move horizontally and upon reaching the end, they dump the materials or feed them to another vessel. It may be a sorting machine, grinder, a bin, or another vessel that is required to complete the process. The speed of the belt can also be adjusted or paused to make changes.
This apron feeder is not the best equipment in processes that involve precise measuring or feeding. For instance, it cannot be used in those processes that require mixing sensitive ingredients in specific rations like medicine, cosmetics and certain foods. It is also not designed for holding most liquids. It requires some modification to transport fluids efficiently.
In spite of the few short falls, it is among the best feeders for manufacturing and industrial operations.
